Understanding De-Shed Grooming Treatments for Dogs: Realistic Expectations

As dog owners, we all love our furry companions, but dealing with excessive shedding can be a real challenge. Fortunately, there's a solution: a de-shed grooming treatment.

In this blog post, we will explore what a de-shed grooming treatment entails and help set realistic expectations for dog owners considering this option.

So, let's dive in!

What is a De-Shed Grooming Treatment?

A De-shed grooming treatment is a specialized grooming technique designed to reduce shedding in dogs. It involves the removal of loose and dead hair from your dog's coat, which not only helps keep your home cleaner but also promotes a healthier coat and skin for your furry friend.

The Process:

  1. Evaluation: A professional groomer will assess your dog's coat condition, shedding severity, and overall health. This evaluation helps determine the appropriate de-shedding tools and techniques to be used.
  2. Brushing: The groomer will use specialized brushes, such as a de-shedding rake or slicker brush, to remove loose hair from your dog's coat. This step helps to minimize shedding by removing the hair that would otherwise end up on your furniture and clothes.
  3. Bathing: A thorough bath using a de-shedding shampoo and conditioner is an essential part of the de-shed grooming treatment. These products help to loosen and remove dead hair, making it easier to extract during the drying process.
  4. Drying: After the bath, your dog will be dried using a high-velocity dryer or other appropriate drying techniques. This step helps to further remove loose hair and ensures your dog's coat is clean and free from excess moisture.
  5. Finishing Touches: Once your dog is dry, the groomer may use additional tools, such as a de-shedding comb or grooming scissors, to remove any remaining loose hair and give your dog's coat a polished look.

Realistic Expectations:

  1. Reduced Shedding: A De-shed grooming treatment can significantly reduce shedding, but it's important to note that it won't eliminate shedding entirely. Dogs naturally shed their hair, and while de-shedding treatments can minimize it, some shedding is still normal.
  2. Maintenance Required: A De-shed grooming treatment is not a one-time solution. Regular grooming sessions, typically every 4-6 weeks, are necessary to maintain the desired results. Consistency is key to keeping shedding under control.
  3. Breed-Specific Results: The effectiveness of a de-shed grooming treatment may vary depending on your dog's breed and coat type. Some breeds with double coats, like Huskies or Golden Retrievers, may require more frequent and intensive de-shedding sessions compared to short-haired breeds.
  4. Health Benefits: Besides reducing shedding, a de-shed grooming treatment promotes healthier skin and coat by removing dead hair and distributing natural oils. This can help prevent matting, skin irritations, and certain allergies.

Conclusion:

A De-shed grooming treatment is a valuable option for dog owners looking to manage shedding and maintain a healthy coat for their furry friends. While it won't completely eliminate shedding, it can significantly reduce it and provide numerous benefits for your dog's overall well-being.

Remember to consult with a professional groomer to determine the best approach for your dog's specific needs. Embrace the joy of a cleaner home and a happier, healthier dog with a de-shed grooming treatment!

NO SHOWS and LAST MINUTE CANCELLATIONS - 48-hour notice of cancellation required
We have been experiencing an increase in no shows and last-minute cancellations as many grooming salons have also. This does affect perosnal income for our amazing groomers since their pay is based on commission. When a client no shows or cancels last minute, the groomer does not have enough time to re-book the appointment slot or call a client from our waiting list.

Going forward from December 1, 2022, for all new clients we require a 20% credit card deposit for every grooming appointment scheduled.

Please note that we require a 48-hour notice for cancellations. ALL CANCELLATIONS must be made in writing within the original confirmation text stream - not only verbally - otherwise we have no proof that the appointment was actually cancelled.
Cancellations may be called in verbally but you must ALSO respond in writing within the original appointment text stream to cancel.

With the first no-show or last minute cancellation, deposit and 50% of the groom price will be charged.
After the second no show/last minute cancellation, 100% of the groom price will be charged and pre-payment of 100% for all future appointments will be required.

Thank you for your understanding. We love and appreciate all our clients and we value our groomer's time and schedules as well.

15 MINUTE LATE POLICY. We politely would like to ask that you arrive on time for your appointment. We have such high demand on our schedule that we must stay on track. We are really sorry for any inconvenience it may cause, but if you arrive more than 15 minutes late, we MAY have to reschedule you for another day. Thank you for understanding.
